Top Things to Do in the Dominican RepublicPosted on November 21. 2013
One great thing about Dominican Republic vacations is the fact that the country is chock full of chances to get out there and be active. In our opinion, activities help balance out the otherwise relaxing nature of a Caribbean vacation, and here are some of the best things to do in the Dominican Republic that we recommend.
Scuba Diving and Snorkeling
Whether you want to head down deep or just skim the surface, the Dominican Republic is a great spot for you. Everything from old pirate ship wrecks to schools of colorful and bright fish are on display for you under the clear and warm waters of the Dominican Republic. Yes, divers in the Dominican Republic will find a wide variety of diving off pretty much every coast, with each coast featuring its own specialty. For snorkel lovers, the star of the show are the Humpback whales that come to calve every winter.
There’s nothing better than hitting the links under the warm sunshine with a teal blue sea behind you, and you have plenty chances to do that golfing in the Dominican Republic. Some of the courses here actually feature layouts imagined by some of the world’s most respected designers and that has helped put the Dominican Republic on the map golf wise. Some highlights include Punta Espada and Teeth of the Dog gold courses whose “down by the sea” design elements have gained acclaim.
Horseback riding is a thrill anywhere in the world, but it is especially exciting on the beaches of the Dominican Republic. These majestic animals provide a way to see the coast that you just simply cannot get on foot or in a car. Many tour companies offer tours where the horses will take you from the beach to the mountains in the same tour.
Ziplining is an activity that will fill you up with adrenaline while you are up above the trees, and it’s no different in the Dominican Republic. What makes zip lining here special though is the fact that when you zipline here, you will be flying over native flora and fauna, many of which can’t be found anywhere else in the Caribbean.
Even if your swing isn’t good enough to actually play in the professional Baseball leagues in the Dominican Republic, taking in a game as a spectator is still bound to get your heart pumping. Baseball is an absolute obsession here, and some of Major League Baseball’s biggest stars hail from the Dominican Republic.
The beaches of Cabarete serve as the backdrop to a number of Yoga studios, and for good reason once you see the beach there. Relaxing is a major part of Yoga, and what better to put you in a relaxing mood than the many treetop yoga studios here.
